The Department of Sanskrit is one of the important and popular Departments of the College which came into existence in the year 1994 under the guidance of Retd. Prof. Birendra Singha, founder member and Present G.B. president of Silchar College. Prof. Singha inaugurated it with chanting Vedic mantras. Sanskrit is the storehouse of all types of knowledge. It is the mother of all languages of the world. Dr. Manas Sinha, the founder faculty member along with Mrs. Minati Sharma and Dr. Sanjita Sinha adorned the Department for quite a long period. The learned teachers of the Department have worked relentlessly to restructure and to the various needs of the students. Brilliant teachings of the teachers over the years have inspired the students to keep up the spirit of study. Keeping the legacy alive, the department has been organizing spoken Sanskrit classes, Sanskrit Day every year.
