Department of Political Science

Political science offers in-depth knowledge and understanding of the state, the systems of government and the scientific analysis of political activity, thought, theories and behaviour. It not only enables a student to understand the local and global politics, but also develops his analytical and critical thinking skills.

Since the inception of Silchar College, the Department of Political Science has been one of the major Departments with steady increase in students’ enrolment. Apart from providing regular classroom teaching, the faculties of the department actively lead students in all major events of the college, be it celebrations of Republic Day, Independence Day, Freshers’, Farewell Programmes or other co-curricular and social outreach activities. From time to time the department organizes counseling sessions, orientation programmes, group discussions, debate and essay competitions and many more. The department has a wall magazine which is altered yearly. The students of the department are always encouraged to pursue higher education and chalk out their plan for career building. Through all its academic and co-curricular activities the Department tries to inculcate values of democracy in students.

The Department of Political Science endeavours to enrich students’ moral and intellectual outlook, develop them as efficient, active and responsible citizens of Bharat and, thus, to contribute to the sustainability and progress of the nation.
